His supposed "crime" was "violating the [Bank Secrecy Act] by causing Binance to violate the BSA by causing Binance to fail to implement an effective anti-money laundering program."
In other words, he didn't spy on his customers for the US government. Nobody should spy on their customers for the US government, and not doing so isn't a "crime," it's baseline ethical behavior.
Good on Trump. Hopefully he'll pardon the equally un-guilty Ian Freeman, too.
