An interesting question to me is whether the Internet would have enhanced the effectiveness of the student movement -- or drained off much of its strength. Would the freedom fighter in the picture below have been there to block those tanks, or would he have remained at home watching events out his window and spraining his thumb on the "Blog This!" button?
